The "White City"
Located at the joining of the Sava and Danube rivers, Belgrade may as well be named “the city of intersections,” as it’s also where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. Belgrade has one of the most important prehistoric cultures of Europe, as well as one of the most rooted in conflict—especially in recent memory (remember the wars of the 1990s and the NATO bombing campaign?). Belgrade is the Serbian capital, and while it will rarely be described as “picturesque,” it has been characterized as outspoken, adventurous, proud, audacious, and gritty.
More than 40 invasions have impacted the city’s unique architecture and with a youthful resurgence, the city is flourishing once more with a lively artistic and cultural scene. With old-world culture contrasting a vibrant nightlife and a thriving coffee/restaurant/bar scene, the Serbian capital is a cultured city on the move.
…and I’m looking forward to every minute of it :)
