Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
January 2019
The Land of Mystery
Of all stops on this tour, Kuala Lumpur has held perhaps the most mystique in my mind due to my lack of familiarity with it. However, chances are that between its steel-clad skyscrapers, lush parks, mega-sized shopping malls, and lively nightspots, this city may feel more like home than the rest. In addition to being the national capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur is its cultural, financial and economic centre as well, and it even plays home to the Parliament of Malaysia, and the official residence of the Malaysian King.
As one of the safer cities on this trip (Safe Cities Index 2017 has put Kuala Lumpur 31st on its world safest cities list, the highest ranked city for a developing country), I expect to experience this city's mixture of old colonial influences, Asian traditions, Malay Islamic inspirations, modern, and postmodern architecture on foot. I should blend right in, as Kuala Lumpur is the sixth most visited city in the world!
While trekking about, I certainly plan to get some new instagram posts for my #ViewsFromTheSips series at one of the many hawker stalls or traditional neighborhood kopitiam (coffee shops) that will undoubtedly beckon me in with the aroma of freshly cooked food and deliciously brewed beverage.
