Month: Eat.

I’m really excited about this month's stop in Kyoto, Japan. Formerly the Imperial capital of Japan for more than one thousand years, Kyoto is located in the central part of the island of Honshu, Japan. Although ravaged by wars, fires, and earthquakes during its eleven centuries as the imperial capital, Kyoto was spared from much of the destruction of World War II. This leaves Kyoto as old Japan writ large: atmospheric temples, sublime gardens, traditional teahouses, and stunning Zen gardens. It has been called “Japan's Spiritual Heart” with its nearly 2000 temples and shrines. A sense of sacredness can be felt just roaming the streets of Kyoto. I am certainly looking forward to diving into the arts, local culture, and geography in Kyoto; yet, if I’m honest, I’m most looking forward to…the food.

Kyoto is brimming with Michelin-starred restaurants, chic cocktail bars, cool cafes, izakaya (Japanese pub-eateries), craft-beer bars and old-school noodle joints. I’m at high risk of gaining 10-20 lbs this month, so please send me healthy vibes during the month!
